Who It Suits and What It Addresses

What Massage Therapy Is and Who It Is For

Massage therapy at Philo Health is clinical manual therapy delivered by Michelle Lozada, a Registered Massage Therapist and skin specialist with more than 22 years of practice across chiropractic clinics, sports settings and wellness spaces in Calgary. This isn't a generic rub-down. It's soft tissue work, myofascial techniques, lymphatic drainage and assisted stretching aimed at reducing tension, improving mobility and supporting how your body functions.

It suits people managing ongoing tension, athletes looking for recovery support, and anyone whose movement feels restricted. Treatment addresses both the local restriction you can point to and the wider patterns that keep pulling it back. When it makes sense, massage works alongside chiropractic so care stays connected.

What to Expect in the Room

What a Massage Session Looks Like

Sessions are built around what you need on the day, not a fixed routine applied to everyone.

01

A short intake

Michelle asks what's bothering you, what you do day to day, and what you want out of the session before anything begins.
02

Hands-on treatment

Depending on your goals, this may include deep soft tissue work, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage or assisted stretching. Full-body Lomi Lomi work is also available.
03

Targeted work when needed

For jaw and head tension, specialised buccal and facial work is available. Abdominal therapy can support digestive function and core tension.
04

Afterwards

You may feel looser right away or a little tender for a day. Michelle will suggest simple things to help the work hold.

Is Massage Therapy Covered by Insurance in Mission Calgary

Massage therapy provided by a Registered Massage Therapist is covered under most extended health plans.

Coverage varies between plans, so how much is reimbursed depends on your specific policy and the RMT designation. Bring your insurance details and we can help you understand what applies before your appointment. A posted fee schedule is available at the clinic, and fees are reviewed with you before treatment begins.

Why Patients Choose This Clinic

Why Massage Therapy at Philo Health in Mission Calgary

Michelle's approach is rooted in clinical reasoning built over two decades in Calgary. Alongside soft tissue and myofascial work she offers traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, known for its continuous rhythmic application that supports circulation and helps the nervous system settle, and clinical skin therapies including microneedling for tissue repair and skin integrity.

The clinic sits on 24 Ave SW, straightforward to reach from Mission, Cliff Bungalow and across southwest Calgary. Care here doesn't happen in isolation. When your tension is tied to how you move, massage can be paired with movement guidance and chiropractic so the whole picture gets addressed.

Massage Therapy Questions, Answered

Do I need a referral for massage therapy?

No referral is needed to book. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's note to reimburse massage, so check your policy, but you can be seen without one.

How often should I come in?

It depends on what you're managing. For ongoing tension, a series of sessions closer together often helps most at first, then spacing out. Michelle will suggest what fits your situation.

Will it hurt?

Deeper work can feel intense, but it should stay within your comfort. Tell Michelle what you're feeling and she'll adjust pressure to match.

Can I book massage on its own, or does it have to be with other care?

You can book massage on its own. If it turns out other care would help, we can talk about that, but there's no obligation.

What if I've never had clinical massage before?

That's fine. Michelle will explain what she's doing and why as she goes, and the intake makes sure the session is built around what you need.
